Data-Based Advocacy 18-20 November 2021, Central Java and Yogyakarta

The Data-Based Advocacy Training for the Central Java and Yogyakarta factories was held on November 18-20 2021. The training participants came from factory-level Trade Union representatives in the Central Java and Yogyakarta regions who were partners of the Data Academy. The Trade Unions participating in this Data-Based Advocacy Training are SPN, Garteks and TSK-KSPSI.

The factories that participated in this activity consisted of PT. MOD Indonesia, PT. Unggul Rejo Warsono, PT. Eagle Glove Indonesia, PT. Samkyung Jaya Garment, PT. Dupantex, PT. Unggaran Sari Garment, PT. Kiho Bali Korin, PT. Panamtex, PT. Pertiwi Indo Mas and  PT. Hwaseung Indonesia.

This training is one of the joint programs of Trade Union Rights Centre (TURC) and Gajimu Indonesia which aims to enable trade unions to increase their capacity to obtain, process and analyze as well as advocate using data.

On the first day, participants gathered at the GranDhika Pemuda Semarang Hotel, before starting the event the participants and the Data Academy team carried out a Covid-19 rapid test, as one of the health protocols that must be followed. The first event was the opening which was delivered by Nadia Pralita from Gajimu and introduction between participants, they also did a pre-test before starting the first learning material. Furthermore, Didit Saleh from TURC presented materials on Labor Law in Indonesia and the Trade Union Law Introduction on Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and Company Regulation, Implications of the Job Creation Law on CBA

On the second day, participants received material on the concept of gender sensitivity presented by Ichsan from TURC. Following that, Nadia explained about how to access the Gajimu website and explained that participants can use the Gajimu.com website to find the data they need. The next material is about Data and Information, Analysis of crucial issues and determining Priority Issues and formulating proposals into presentations. Participants are ordered to practice as a group, accompanied by a co-facilitator from the Data Academy team. And they were required to present the analysis results of their respective groups on the next day by role playing.

Participants received material on Introduction to Advocacy, Negotiation Techniques and Social Dialogue as Advocacy Methods by Didit on the third day of training. This material is important enough so that they can directly practice it in their roleplay.

Finally, before the event is over, participants are required to provide feedback related to what they have learned in the training. The results of this response will be used in providing input for the Data Academy team to make further training.
